Every message from you is like a knife right through my heart.

I feel like I’ve took one step forward but then I’m right back to the start.

Sitting in the darkness thoughts running through my head.

Why are you planning a life with him when you should be with me instead.

All the things we shared together now buried in the past.

What we had was special, I just assumed we’d last.

I can’t cope the thought of you with anybody else.

Our hopes and dreams are shattered now, like pictures swatted from a shelf.

This poem captures the raw, emotional aftermath of a relationship shattered by betrayal. The speaker reflects on the pain of losing the future they once envisioned with their partner, now tainted by infidelity. In the depths of grief, they long for the intimacy and connection they shared before things became complicated, while also grappling with the haunting realisation that the person they once loved may be gone for good. The poem explores themes of love, loss, shattered dreams, and the internal conflict between holding on to the past and facing the painful truth of what is no longer possible.
